Here we control this circuit by the impulse manual control unit.
First, we are keeping press the charging button on the control panel till the sphere gap breakdown happens. Then we can take the impulse waveform to the screen as you can see. You may see there are spheres on 5 stages in the circuit and the circuit diagram of one stage is shown below.
From the waveform, we can calculate front time and tail time, then we can plot the impulse waveform properly.
Normally lightnings are simulated with negative voltages. So here our waveform comes from as negative.
We can measure t2, t3, t5 from the screen cursor and then by applying those values to above equations we can take front and fall time. With that we plot the exponential graphs. That was the final output of our work.
Normally impulse generators are used to test transformers, or other devices. By applying a sudden impulses we can check whether the device can withstand with that or not. Then we can identify the weak points.
